Windows Server 2025 is now available

Windows Server 2025 is now available to deploy as a virtual server through ServerPoint’s Client Portal. Select it from the operating system list, and your Windows server will be ready in minutes - fully updated and configured for optimal performance.

Benefits of Windows Server 2025

Windows Server 2025 brings significant improvements over previous versions:

Hotpatching

Apply security updates without rebooting your server. Hotpatching delivers critical security fixes while your applications keep running, reducing downtime and maintenance windows significantly.

Enhanced security

  • Credential Guard improvements protect against credential theft attacks
  • Secured-core server capabilities for hardware-rooted security
  • Built-in protection against firmware-level threats

SMB over QUIC

Access file shares securely over the internet without a VPN. SMB over QUIC encrypts all traffic and works through firewalls that block traditional SMB ports.

Improved Active Directory

For domain environments, Windows Server 2025 includes enhancements to Active Directory with better performance, security improvements, and new management capabilities.

Better container support

Run Windows containers with improved performance and compatibility. Windows Server 2025 continues Microsoft’s investment in containerization for Windows workloads.

Virtual TPM for all Windows Server 2025 deployments

Every Windows Server 2025 VPS we deploy includes a virtual TPM (Trusted Platform Module). TPM is a security feature that Windows relies on for many of its advanced security capabilities:

  • BitLocker drive encryption for protecting data at rest
  • Windows Hello for Business for passwordless authentication
  • Credential Guard for isolating and protecting credentials
  • Device health attestation for verifying system integrity

With virtual TPM enabled by default on all Windows Server 2025 deployments, you can use these security features immediately without any additional configuration.

KVM enlightenments for enhanced performance

Our VPS platform uses KVM enlightenments (also known as Hyper-V enlightenments) to significantly enhance Windows performance in virtualized environments.

KVM enlightenments are a set of paravirtualization optimizations that allow Windows to communicate more efficiently with the underlying hypervisor. Instead of Windows treating the virtual hardware as if it were physical hardware, enlightenments enable direct communication between the guest OS and the hypervisor for:

  • Timer synchronization: More accurate timekeeping without the overhead of emulated hardware timers
  • Memory management: Efficient memory handling between guest and host
  • Interrupt handling: Faster interrupt delivery and processing
  • Spinlock optimization: Reduced CPU waste when waiting for locks

The result is a Windows VPS that performs significantly closer to bare metal than a standard virtualized setup without these optimizations.

VirtIO drivers pre-installed

Every Windows Server 2025 template includes VirtIO drivers already built in. VirtIO provides paravirtualized I/O for disk and network operations, delivering near-native performance instead of the overhead of fully emulated hardware.

You don’t need to install anything - the drivers are already configured and working from the moment your VPS is deployed. This means:

  • Faster disk I/O through VirtIO block drivers
  • Better network performance through VirtIO network drivers
  • Lower CPU overhead compared to emulated devices

Delivered fully up to date

When you deploy a Windows Server 2025 VPS, you receive a server that is fully patched and up to date with all the latest Windows Updates. We maintain our templates to ensure you start with a secure, current installation rather than spending hours downloading and installing updates on first boot.

This means you can start working immediately without waiting for lengthy update processes to complete.

When you deploy a Windows VPS with ServerPoint, you get properly licensed software through Microsoft’s SPLA (Services Provider License Agreement).

What is SPLA?

SPLA is Microsoft’s licensing program specifically designed for service providers who offer software services to customers. It allows hosting providers like ServerPoint to license Microsoft products on a monthly basis and provide them to customers as part of hosted services.

Here’s the reality that many VPS buyers don’t realize: SPLA is the only legal way to obtain a Windows VPS.

Retail Windows Server licenses, volume licenses, OEM licenses, and other Microsoft licensing programs explicitly prohibit using those licenses in a hosted or multi-tenant environment. The license terms require that the hardware running the software be owned or leased by the license holder - not shared in a data center.

This means:

  • You cannot legally use a retail Windows Server license on a VPS you rent from any provider
  • You cannot bring your own volume license or OEM license to a hosting provider
  • “Cheap” Windows VPS offerings using gray-market keys or retail licenses are not legally licensed

When a hosting provider offers Windows VPS, they must be a Microsoft SPLA partner and license Windows through SPLA. There is no alternative.

What this means for you

As a ServerPoint customer, you don’t need to worry about licensing compliance. The Windows license is included with your VPS, properly activated, and fully legitimate. The licensing cost is automatically calculated based on the number of CPU cores in your VPS and included in your monthly bill.

We can also provide SPLA licensing for additional Microsoft products:

  • SQL Server (Standard and Enterprise editions)
  • Remote Desktop Services (RDS) for multi-user access
  • Other Microsoft server products as needed

For Windows Server 2025, we recommend:

  • RAM: 4 GB minimum (more for heavier workloads)
  • Disk space: 50 GB minimum

Windows Server has higher resource requirements than Linux distributions. Starting with 4 GB of RAM ensures smooth operation for most workloads, with room to scale up as your needs grow.

Getting started

  1. Log in to ServerPoint’s Client Portal
  2. Click to deploy a new VPS
  3. Select Windows Server 2025 from the operating system templates
  4. Choose at least 4 GB RAM and 50 GB disk space
  5. Deploy your server

Your Windows Server 2025 VPS will be ready in minutes - fully updated, with VirtIO drivers, KVM enlightenments, virtual TPM, and proper Microsoft licensing already configured.
